We don’t look like what we’ve been through

We’ve been through fire
But we are not burnt
We’ve gone through shits
But we don’t smell
We’ve seen tears but we don’t cry
We don’t look like what we’ve been through

Like a tuber of yam
We come from the soil
We’re covered with  dirt
Hiding our potential from the world
We’re prone to danger
And highly vulnerable
But we still manage to make it out fine

We don’t look like what we’ve been through

We smile for the world to see.
Forgetting the tears we shed
We sing and dance
Like we’ve always been happy
Trying hard to forget past pains
Our palms are tough and thick
Our skins are rough and full of scars
But we still manage to look beautiful
We don’t look like what we’ve been through.
